In a world where many are motivated by material possessions like houses, cars, and money, I found myself struggling with the values associated with such pursuits. Working in a business where people would lament over late delivery of their Ferrari projects, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of discomfort. With pressing issues like child starvation, animal cruelty, and widespread injustice prevalent in the world, my conscience was weighed down.
There were moments when I contemplated giving up everything I had to dedicate myself to causes that truly needed assistance. I considered joining groups committed to hunting poachers in Africa or wholeheartedly supporting an orphanage in the same continent.
However, a friend’s perspective shook me out of my dilemma. He said, “Tyler, you can’t be the person on the street corner pleading for change in the world. You need to be the one in the Lamborghini, pulling up to board meetings, and using your influence to advocate for change on a larger scale. It shouldn’t be about your car being late.”
This simple yet profound statement became the driving force behind my motivation. I realized that I must pursue success not for its own sake but for the resources and influence it could provide to make a positive impact on the world. It became clear that my role was to be a catalyst for change, leveraging my resources and influence to address the real issues plaguing our world.
To this day, I frequently revisit images and stories that remind me of this purpose, reigniting my determination to strive for success with a higher calling in mind. So, I ask you, what is it that truly motivates you?
