San Diego is a popular vacation destination for people from around the world, thanks to its warm weather, stunning beaches, and iconic landmarks. If you’re visiting the city, one of the top “must-see” attractions is the San Diego Harbor Cruise. This hour-long tour takes you on a scenic journey through one of the most active and important naval ports in the United States.
On the San Diego Harbor Cruise, you’ll get to experience firsthand the maritime history of the city and see some of the most impressive naval ships in the world up close. The tour features iconic ships such as the USS Midway, a retired aircraft carrier that served in the U.S. Navy for over 47 years, and the USS Ronald Reagan, one of the most powerful aircraft carriers in the world. You’ll even learn about the aircraft carrier that was featured in the movie Top Gun Two and the one that dropped off SEAL Team Six to go after Osama bin Laden.
As you make your way along the harbor, you’ll also get a fantastic view of the Coronado Bridge, one of San Diego’s most recognizable landmarks. The bridge spans 2.1 miles and rises 200 feet above the San Diego Bay, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline and the harbor. It’s a true marvel of engineering and one that you won’t want to miss.
But the San Diego Harbor Cruise isn’t just about the naval ships and the Coronado Bridge. You’ll also get to experience the natural beauty of the harbor and maybe even see some playful dolphins like I did. As you enjoy the fresh air and stunning views, your guide will share the history of the harbor and its significance to the development of San Diego and the United States. You’ll learn about the city’s deep connection to the Navy and how it has helped shape the city’s culture and identity.
In conclusion, I thought it was a great way to get around and see the harbor, get some fresh air and learn and be in awe of how impressive the us based navel fleet is. A bit more relaxing than my usual adventures but for $33 and an hour of time I would do it again. Please also be aware parking is expensive if you plan to park right in front of the Midway.
