The Roadmap for Starting a Small Business– Everything You Need to Know

Have you ever wanted to start a business? You probably have plenty of great small business ideas but like many others, you might fear the unknown or simply lack the understanding of what it takes to start or run a small business. This is more common than you might imagine. Most of us have both real (and imaginary) roadblocks that keep us from taking such big steps for ourselves. I know I did.

When it came to the idea of starting a business, I was terrified. I didn’t know the first thing about stuff like paperwork, insurance, or anything else I needed to successfully set up and open a business. It scared me to the point that I almost backed out several times, but I’m glad I didn’t.

My goal has always been to help make the process of opening a small business possible for everyone.

I created a roadmap for starting a small business that outlines the exact steps needed–from ideation to launch–to make opening a small business as actionable as possible. This roadmap was designed to make it easier to cut through the red tape and start on your journey to success.

The roadmap for starting a small business gives you all the right steps to keep you on track. Once you know what you want to achieve and how to get there, the rest comes down to developing what’s called a “seeing it possible” mindset.

“Seeing it Possible” Mindset

At the risk of sounding too preachy here, I want to mention one of the most important mindset strategies to remember when you’re taking your first steps towards opening a business. I call it “seeing it possible”.

Now, depending on how you were raised, you may or may not have grown up around success. It’s usually the case that those who did grow up around success were able to view doctors, lawyers, and business people as the normal human beings they are.

On the other hand, if you didn’t grow up around success you may have held onto the very false belief that those people are somehow smarter, luckier, or even better than you. This is the first mindset that must be fought.

I’m fortunate enough to get asked each year to speak to a group of college students at Maricopa Community College through a program called Year Up. Year Up is made up of many first-generation and underprivileged college students. When I meet with these students, many express the same anxiety I did about opening a business. A lot of them have no successful business people in their families to look up to and have adopted what’s commonly known as a “welfare mentality”. This is the same flawed mentality I once had and was raised to accept.

One thing I fully believe is that anyone can learn to do anything in this world. What someone lacks in natural talent, they can make up with hard work and a can-do outlook.

If we can tap into the idea of “seeing it possible” our goals become more doable and we realize a lot of the barriers in our way are the ones we give ourselves.

Small Business Owners Can Change the World

I believe small businesses are the heart and soul of what is great about the United States of America.

I also believe that empowering people with the education and tools they need to start their own small businesses is a major key to solving complex world and social issues like poverty, social inequality, racism, and more.

I am motivated towards taking imaginary obstacles away from people — especially those of lesser means — so that they too can open businesses and pursue their dreams.

Can you imagine what great things people who know firsthand what it’s like to grow up in poverty are capable of? Can you imagine the change-makers they could become in the world through their success in business? Having personal experience with this background, they are more likely to have an awareness and sensitivity to specific needs that might escape outsiders.

With this in mind, I have built a road map to help guide you step-by-step towards opening a small business.

The goal is to show people the process and take away any imaginary obstacles they may have in mind. I believe by bringing more people into the business world, I can help effect change.
